Walking for Hearing Loss — Could You Help?

On Sunday 17th May, members of GHOHSG are joining the Rotary in Guildford Big Charity Fundraising Walk — tackling distances of 2, 6 or 10 miles in aid of three charities that all support people living with hearing loss.

The three charities are:

Why this matters

Hearing loss can be an isolating experience — it affects not just how people communicate, but how connected they feel to the world around them. Each of the three charities plays a distinct but equally important role: GHOHSG provides local community and practical support for adults in Guildford and West Surrey; Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs that transform the daily lives of deaf people; and the National Deaf Children's Society supports deaf young people at a critical time in their lives.

Meet Elmo — what last year's walk helped achieve

Last year's Big Charity Walk helped fund the training of Elmo, a Hearing Dog for Deaf People now in his second year of training. Hearing dogs are trained to alert their owners to vital everyday sounds — a doorbell, a smoke alarm, a fire alarm — giving deaf people safety, independence and a devoted companion.

Elmo is a lovely reminder of what this walk can achieve. The aim this year is to do it all again.
